Romney Clog Care and Maintenance- scroll down
In 2003, Romney started experimenting with painting some of her designs on some old Dansko clogs of hers. After much trial and error ( getting paint to stick and hold up wasn't easy) the shoes were looking great and were quite durable. After painting clogs for some of her friends, word started coming back that these friends were being stopped on the street, numerous times by total strangers wanting to know where they got their clogs.
With enthusiastic encouragement by Daniel Greenhalgh of Skinny Raven Sports , the finest running store in Alaska, and with a ready supply of new Danskos, Romney began painting Clogs for sale in the store. They were an immediate hit.

In early 2004, Daniel introduced Romney and her custom clogs to the owners of Dansko, who immediately proposed a special edition line of Romney's designs.
Romney is no longer painting for Dansko but is now creating and painting new designs for clogs and belts that can be purchased from Skinny Raven thru the sale page of this site.
The July 27, 2004 Anchorage Daily News ran an informative story about local artist Romney Dodd-Ortland's new clog painting adventure. The story was picked up by the Associated Press and appeared in various papers around the country. A similar story is also featured in the December 2004 issue of Alaska Magazine. Care and Maintenance

Your handpainted Romney clogs are amazingly durable.
There will be scuffing over time where your shoes naturally hit with walking, paint will wear gently in that area only.
A neutral shoe wax can be applied when necessary to restore the original luster.
Just apply the wax with a clean, fine brush or cloth. Then buff it off with a buffing brush or clean soft cloth. Your Romney's will be completely revived to "like new"condition.

A Note About "Special Orders"

Romney is constantly experimenting with color, design and pattern, and new designs are always in the works. Even though she is an artist, and each pair of clogs is hand painted by her, she does not do special orders.
In the past, we have received special requests for various images, like butterflies, stars and various "unusual" color combinations. While we tried to accomodate some of these special requests, for numerous reasons, the results often did not satisfy the customers expectations.
Also, because of Romney's work flow, special requests are very inefficient and time consuming to produce.
We're sorry, but for these reasons, Romney does not do special orders.
